Florida Tech Panthers Women’s Soccer Defeats Embry-Riddle 2-0 in Conference Matchup

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Florida Tech women’s soccer broke an eight-year drought at home, defeating No. 23 Embry-Riddle, 2-0.

Tech immediately went on the offensive, earning a corner-kick opportunity and creating an early Daniela Tobon shot. The Panther took it before the Eagles took their second.

Embry-Riddle produced a few more to end the half, but ultimately, the two teams went into the half scoreless.
In the second half, Florida Tech went right back to being aggressive, taking four shots in four minutes.
Three minutes later, Marta Llopis found herself one-on-one with the keeper. Llopis missed hitting the right post, but Ximena Jauregui was there to follow up for the opening goal and eventual game-winner.

The Panthers were on a roll as Hall Helgdottir placed a perfect deep ball to Katie Ormerod, who then drilled the back of the net, extending the Panthers’ lead to 2-0

Tech’s defense remained stout, allowing two shots for the entire second half and zero since the 54th minute.

FINAL: Florida Tech 2, Embry-Riddle 0

 Katie Ormerod scored her second season goal and Ximena Jauregui scored her third.

■ Jauregui led the team with four total shots taken, including two on-goal.

■ Kaitlin Sinkler played all 90 minutes and made three saves.

■ Panthers moved to 4-9-4 in the all-time series.

UP NEXT: The Panthers travel to Saint Leo for a match on Wednesday, October 2 at 7 p.m.
