Palm Bay’s Sgt. Schrum: Mentor, Leader and Champion for Community Wellness

BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – The Palm Bay Police Department is highlighting the career and contributions of Sergeant Antoinette Schrum, a 20-year veteran whose commitment to youth safety, officer wellness, and community connection has made a lasting impact on the agency.
Sergeant Schrum currently serves as the department’s Youth Services Sergeant, a role that places her at the center of Palm Bay’s efforts to protect and support its youngest residents.
She oversees the city’s School Resource Officers and Youth Offender Officers and works in close partnership with Brevard Public Schools District Security.
Her unit maintains a presence at every school in the city, conducting monthly meetings, drills, and coordinated safety initiatives designed to keep students and staff prepared and protected.
Over her two decades with the Palm Bay Police Department, Sergeant Schrum has held a variety of assignments, including Patrol, Investigations, and serving as the department’s Wellness Coordinator.
She said her faith and family have been the guiding forces throughout her career, providing a constant reminder of the importance of compassion, patience, and grace—qualities she brings to her leadership role in Youth Services.
Among her professional achievements, she considers the creation of the department’s Wellness Program her proudest accomplishment.
In developing the program, she traveled to seminars across the country to study best practices and bring back resources aimed at enhancing the physical, mental, and emotional health of sworn officers, civilian staff, and their families.
Outside of work, Sergeant Schrum enjoys a rich life grounded in family. She cherishes time with her grandchildren and, when off-duty, often travels with her husband. The couple enjoys sightseeing, vacationing, attending concerts, and supporting various sporting events.
Raised in Las Vegas, she says Palm Bay’s appeal lies in its balance—its proximity to beaches, rivers, theme parks, and major cities, all while maintaining the warmth and familiarity of a small-town community.
“Palm Bay still feels like a place where everyone knows each other,” she shared, noting that the strong sense of family within the department is one of the things she enjoys most about her career.
Her longstanding dedication continues to play a vital role in the department’s mission to serve and protect, particularly in supporting the city’s youth and strengthening connections across the community.
