22-Year-Old Palm Bay Man Walking Near State Road 528 Exit Ramp Killed in Early Morning Collision on Merritt Island

A 22-year-old man from Palm Bay was killed early Monday after being struck by a vehicle while walking along a darkened Merritt Island roadway, according to the Florida Highway Patrol officials. The deadly collision occurred around 12:20 a.m. near the State Road 528 exit ramp to Courtenay Parkway.

BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA — A 22-year-old man from Palm Bay was killed early Monday around 12:20 a.m. after being struck by a vehicle while walking near the State Road 528 exit ramp to Courtenay Parkway on Merritt Island, according to the Florida Highway Patrol officials.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson, a 31-year-old driver from Melbourne was traveling eastbound on State Road 528 in the merge lane for the exit ramp when the accident happened.

FHP investigators said that the pedestrian, dressed in dark clothing, was walking eastbound along the dimly lit roadway at the time of the incident.

Emergency personnel transported the pedestrian to Cape Canaveral Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver, who was not injured, told authorities they did not see the pedestrian in the roadway. The driver’s identity has not been disclosed, and no charges have been filed.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers are continuing their investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
