Eastern Florida State Softball Team Dominates South Florida State in Twin Bill

Titans will travel to St. Johns River State College on Tuesday

BREVARD COUNTY • FLORIDA — The Eastern Florida State College softball player Luci Walters tossed a no-hitter in Game 2 as the Titans dominated a doubleheader with South Florida State College Saturday at Titan Softball Complex.

The Titans improved to 11-1 on the season after picking up wins of 14-0 and 9-0.

Avery Velazquez started the first game and struck out the first three hitters she faced on her way to her seventh complete game and fourth shutout of the early season. Velazquez allowed just two infield singles in the five-inning win.

Ashley Corazzini hit a ball down the right field line and recorded the inside the park home run, scoring Isabel Otero to give the Titans a 2-0 lead. The Titans would score eight times with seven hits and two walks in the first inning.

Otero had two hits in the inning and three in the game while Emma George had two singles and a two-run double in the third inning. Martha Jones, Aracelis Jimenez and Ashley Grieser all had two hits.

In Game 2, Walters took the mound and faced just 15 batters in the five innings. The sophomore hit a batter in the first inning but a groundball to Otero at shortstop ended the inning as she stepped on second and threw to first for the double play.

After that, Walters was in control finishing with two strikeouts, four groundouts and eight flyouts for her first no-hitter as a Titan.

While Walters was dominating on the mound, the Titans offense went to work in the bottom of the first inning.

Corazzini reached on a fielder’s choice, George walked and Martha Jones reached on an error to load the bases. Jimenez stepped up and hit the first pitch for a two-run single.

Up 2-0, the Titans would add to the lead in the second inning as Corazzini hit a two-run double and scored three times to lead 5-0.

The Titans would score four more times in the third inning as Jimenez, Grieser, Otero and Velazquez all scored in the inning.

Eastern Florida State College is now 11-1 and on a 10-game win streak. The Titans will travel to St. Johns River State College on Tuesday for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.

The Titans are 2-1 this season against the Vikings. They will be back at Titan Softball Complex Thursday for a doubleheader against Florida Gateway College starting at 2 p.m.
