BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – April Surac, a student from Cocoa, was just named one of only 40 National Awardees of the 2025 NCWIT Aspirations in Computing Award.
She was selected from more than 3,700 applicants across all 50 states and U.S. territories—placing her in the top one percent nationwide and representing the Space Coast in an incredible way.
Surac was recognized not only for her technical achievements, but also for her dedication to using technology for social impact. She created Bookoli, an AI-powered platform that helps identify and support students with reading challenges like dyslexia.
It’s a response to Florida’s growing literacy crisis, which affects many communities right here in Brevard.
Surac supports over 150 users and is forming partnerships with local schools to expand access. April was also recently honored at a fully funded national ceremony in Charlotte, hosted by NCWIT and Bank of America, with support from Apple, Google, Microsoft, and Jane Street.
