BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne Central Catholic announced that they have hired three-time state champion coach EJ Murray as their next head varsity girls basketball coach.
Murray, who recently led the Palm Bay Pirates to a Class 4A state championship, takes over an MCC program that went 7-13 last season.
The announcement was made known after an email was sent to students and families by Athletic Director Lenny Paoletti.
“Good afternoon Hustler Basketball players, Cheerleaders, and families. After an extensive and exhaustive search, I am thrilled to announce that Mr. Emerson “EJ” Murray will be joining Melbourne Central Catholic as our new Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach.”
“This is a game-changer for our program. Coach Murray just led Palm Bay High School to an FHSAA State Championship in Girls Basketball—the highest level of achievement in Florida high school sports. He brings championship experience, a winning mindset, and a commitment to excellence that will elevate our team to new heights.”
Murray’s coaching career spans several years, including a notable tenure at Florida Prep, where he secured two state championships in 2019 and 2020.
Over his eight seasons as head coach, he has amassed a commendable record of 157-55. His coaching prowess has also been instrumental in developing talent, as he coached Brevard County’s first two McDonald’s All-Americans.
