Multiple Fire Departments Respond to Melbourne Brush Fire, NWS Issues Dry and Windy Conditions Alert

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — The Melbourne Fire Department, the Brevard County Fire Rescue, and the Florida Forest Service responded to a brush fire that broke out about 1 p.m. on Wednesday.

Melbourne police officers shut down John Rodes Boulevard as the fire crews fought the fast-moving fire that burned several acres.

Due to the brush fire, the City of Melbourne advised that John Rodes Boulevard is currently closed between Eau Gallie Boulevard and Dow Road.

Brevard County Supervisor of Elections Tim Bobanic was close to the incident and described the efforts of the fire crews.

“Today I feel immensely blessed and grateful for the men and women of the Melbourne Fire Department, the Brevard County Fire Rescue, and the Florida Forest Service for their help battling the brushfire that was on the north property line of our Election Support Center,” said Bobanic.

“Thanks to these dedicated public servants, our staff and building are safe.”

The National Weather Service Office of Melbourne has recently warned about dry and windy conditions. The conditions are conducive to the spontaneous ignition and spread of wildfires, per the National Weather Service.

Space Coast residents and businesses should be cautious during this dry spell.
