WATCH REPLAY: The 17th Annual Brevard County High School Breakfast of Champions Recognition Awards was held Saturday, May 24, in the Conference Center in the Student Union Building on the Melbourne campus of Eastern Florida State College. More than 40 awards will be presented to the best student-athletes during the Breakfast of Champions awards ceremony.

The 17th Annual Brevard County High School Breakfast of Champions Recognition Awards will be held on Saturday, May 24, beginning at 9 a.m. in the Conference Center in the Student Union Building on the Melbourne campus of Eastern Florida State College.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The 17th Annual Brevard County High School Breakfast of Champions Recognition Awards will be held on Saturday, May 24, beginning at 9 a.m. in the conference center in the Student Union Building on the Melbourne campus of Eastern Florida State College.

This will be the first in-person induction since the COVID-19 pandemic.

As shown below, more than 40 awards will be presented to the best student-athletes during the Breakfast of Champions awards ceremony.

OFFENSIVE FOOTBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Jayvan Boggs

SCHOOL: Cocoa
GRADE: 12
COLLEGE: Florida State University

Jayvan Boggs has been a big part of the Cocoa football team’s success on the offensive side of the ball over the past four years, helping the Tigers achieve three straight state championships. As a Senior this season, Boggs led the nation in receiving yards with 2,133 in only 14 total games.

DEFENSIVE FOOTBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Josh Roberts

SCHOOL: Eau Gallie

COLLEGE: Florida Atlantic University

Josh Roberts was the anchor for Eau Gallie’s defensive unit, which had a historical year going 12-2. Roberts is a versatile player who, at 6’4 220 pounds, can play linebacker and play defensive end. As a Senior, Roberts had 98 total tackles, 29 for a loss, 14 sacks, and 5 forced fumbles.

BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Aaron McGee

SCHOOL: Viera
GRADE: 11

Aaron McGee is a “do-it-all” type of player, and his play really showed that this season for the Hawks. He averaged nearly 20 points a game, over five assists, and five rebounds. He was a big part of the Hawks’ 22-5 season, winning the CCC championship and their district championship. McGee is interested in many Division I programs around the country.

GIRL BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Jaida Civil

SCHOOL: PALM BAY

GPA: 3.7
COLLEGE: University of Tennessee

Jaida Civil was unanimously named the player of the year. Her talent was recognized locally and nationally, as Civil was one of the best players in the nation. Civil led the Pirates to a 4A state championship and a trip to the McDonald’s All-American game. This season, she averaged 18 points, eight rebounds, and five assists per game for Palm Bay.

SCHOOL: Eau Gallie

COLLEGE: Daytona State College

Carson Lietz was not just the top hitter for the Commodores this past season, but was also their ace on the mound. Lietz batted .370 with six home runs and posted a 1.14 ERA on the pitchers’ mound. The Commodores had a solid 20-10 season but lost in the regional quarterfinals of the FHSAA playoffs.

SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Layna Ayala

SCHOOL: Melbourne
GRADE: 10

Only a sophomore, Layna Ayala, has already been a superstar for the Melbourne Bulldogs. She led the Bulldogs batting .495 this season with 16 home runs and 46 batted in. The Bulldogs did win their district championship, but did not finish the season as they would have liked, losing in the regional quarterfinals of the FHSAA playoffs.

In many ways, Jasmine Calton was the difference in Bayside’s turnaround in 2024. After a 12-12 record in 2023, the Bears achieved a third seed in the playoffs this past fall and finished the year 17-10. Calton led Bayside with four kills a game, making her presence felt.

Shayaan Kim has already made a name for himself in the golf scene at an early age. This past season, he was a key contributor to Viera’s winning the 3A state championship. He has been competing in junior events for the past couple of months and has four top-10 finishes in his last four.

Hannah Hall isn’t new to recognition; she has already been named Space Coast golfer of the year and honored in the Breakfast of Champions. However, her dedication and passion for her craft continue to show! As one of the top golfers in the state, Hall has placed in the top four in both her junior competitions this year.

SCHOOL: Titusville
GRADE: 12
COLLEGE: Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

Wyatt Moxley played a huge part in the ascendance of Titusville Terrier soccer. Just a year ago, they were 9-8, and this season, they are 10-5. Moxley was the captain and centerpiece for the Terriers. His 13 goals and 13 assists are among the top on the team, and his impact was felt in every aspect of the game.

SCHOOL: Cocoa Beach

COLLEGE: Saint Leo University

The Cocoa Beach girls’ soccer team went from 8-8 a year ago to 16-5, and Skye Dias was a huge part of that. She spent her previous high school years at Eustis High School and just continued to get better and better. In her last year with the Minutemen, she scored 53 goals in 20 games, leading the team to a district championship.

BOY TENNIS PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Frederic Tu

SCHOOL: Holy Trinity
GRADE: 12
COLLEGE: Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

Fred Tu has been an elite tennis player for many years at Holy Trinity. He is a consensus “5-star” prospect and ranked amongst the top 100 players in the nation. He is an all-county, all-state, and all-American tennis player and was undefeated in his last season with the Tigers. Tu won a state title in “doubles” this season, has left his mark at Holy Trinity, and is forever in the history books.

GIRL TENNIS PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Elena Widick

SCHOOL: Cocoa Beach
GRADE: 11

The Cocoa Beach girls’ tennis team is led by Elena Widick, who this past spring went 12-1 in singles and 20-4 overall. The girls’ team, which has zero seniors, will have everyone back, including star player Elena Widick. She is an all-county player looking to make a state playoff run next season.

BOY WRESTLER OF THE YEAR: Leonard Christian

SCHOOL: Palm Bay
GRADE: 12
COLLEGE: Life University

Leonard Christian is a certified legend in Brevard County wrestling. Christian placed at state three years in a row and as a senior he broke through winning a state title match. His career as a Palm Bay Pirate finished with a perfect 60-0 record.

GIRL WRESTLER OF THE YEAR: Emma Hoppe

GIRL WRESTLER OF THE YEAR: Emma Hoppe

SCHOOL: Viera
GRADE: 12

Emma Hoppe has dominated the competition while playing for the Viera Hawks. Becoming the first girl to win a state championship at Viera, Hoppe also won the Cape Coast Conference and district titles. Hoppe was recognized nationally for her talent; she earned a top-25 ranking in the country this past season.

BOY LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Kilian Rowe

BOY LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Kilian Rowe

SCHOOL: Satellite
GRADE: 12
COLLEGE: University of Central Florida

Kilian Rowe has left his mark at Satellite with an impressive 205 goals. Rowe has averaged five goals a game over the past two seasons for the Scorpions. He has been a massive part of Satellite’s success in the last two years, with back-to-back 9-win seasons and playoff appearances. Rowe finishes his career as an all-county player for Satellite.

GIRL LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Isa Brown

COLLEGE: Florida Tech

Over the past several years, Isa Brown has been a key part of Viera’s success. Viera has been a top team in Florida over the past three years, and Brown has averaged three goals a game over that time. Brown scored 58 goals with 18 assists last season, rounding out her career with 155 total goals. She was named the MaxPreps player of the game three times over her senior season.

BOY BOWLER OF THE YEAR: Lincoln Moyer

SCHOOL: Edgewood
GRADE: 11

Lincoln Moyer has already been bowling strikes for a long time. The junior has numerous 300-game wins and wants to continue his success in junior golf tournaments. Moyer won the 2024 FHSAA state championship with 931 over four games! Moyer still has one more year of high school bowling and is looking to win another state title, as he did this past year.

GIRL BOWLER OF THE YEAR: Kailani Hannum

GIRL BOWLER OF THE YEAR: Kailani Hannum

SCHOOL: Melbourne
GRADE: 11

Kailani Hannum is one of the top bowlers in the county and in Florida. She finished in the top three of the Cape Coast Conference and made the All-Space Coast County team. She was named athlete of the week this past season for bowling 257 in a match against Satellite. With another year left, she wants to keep improving and etching her name in the record books.

BOY CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE YEAR: Evan Spreitzer

BOY CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE YEAR: Evan Spreitzer

SCHOOL: Holy Trinity
GRADE: 11

Evan Spreitzer is a three-sport athlete who excels in soccer, football, and, of course, cross-country. Spreitzer has blazing times in every event he has run and recently won a state title in the 2-mile. His mile time ranks number one in Florida, and in the FHSAA state title 5k run, he placed second in the field.

GIRL CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE YEAR: Addie Elwell

SCHOOL: Viera
GRADE: 11

Addie Elwell is the first Viera Hawk to win a state title as a runner, boy or girl. She recently won the 2-mile competition, the 5k regional, and was second in the Cape Coast conference 5k. Addie has been impressive throughout her high school career. She was named the cross-country runner of the year as a freshman in 2023.

BOY SWIMMER OF THE YEAR: Brayden Hunt

SCHOOL: Titusville
GRADE: 12
COLLEGE: Indian River State College

Brayden Hunt is an exceptional swimmer and has been over his four years at Titusville. In numerous events, he is a top-five swimmer in the state, but his specialty is the 50—and 100-meter freestyle. This past season, Hunt won the 2A state championship in the 100-meter freestyle race with a dashing time 45.63. He also placed third in the 50-meter freestyle.

SCHOOL: Rockledge
GRADE: 11

Elena Rollen, a multi-sport athlete, is a very talented swimmer; she put that on display this past year. Winning the Cape Coast Conference championship, she was also among the top swimmers in the state at the FHSAA state swim meet. She placed fourth in the 100-meter freestyle and eighth in the individual medley. She was the regional champion in the 200-meter individual medley and has been exceptional in junior swim meets.

SCHOOL: Palm Bay
GRADE: 12
College: La Salle

Lucas Smit achieved the ultimate goal and won a state title this past year. Lucas finished 6th in the state championship as a freshman and second place as a sophomore and junior. He has been atop the Cape Coast Conference throughout his high school career. His diving talents are among the best in the state and nationally, as he has performed very well in junior meets. As last month smit won a men’s open qualifying meet on the 1 m board which earned him a spot on the AAU national team at the July meet in Croatia!

SCHOOL: Viera

COLLEGE: Bowling Green University

Sadie Dempz’s consistency over four years has proved worthy, as she won a state title this past dive season. Her background in gymnastics made a big difference in her dive’s success, and she became the second diver in Viera school history to win a state championship.

GRADE: 11

Jayden McPherson showed his blazing speed this season, winning district in the 100—and 200-meter races. He placed first in the region in the 200-meter race and second in the 100-meter race. He had his best showing in the 200 recently in the FHSAA state meet, putting up a zooming 20.96 time. McPherson placed third in the 200 and tenth in the 100 this year, but he still has one more year to claim a state title.

SCHOOL: Satellite
GRADE: 11

This year, Keira Merrick won a district title in the 800 and competed well in regionals and states. She placed second in the 800- and 1600-meter regional races and finished in the top five in both states recently. She won the 400-meter hurdles at the Cape Coast Conference meet and was second in the 1600.

BOY SURFER OF THE YEAR: Beckham McCart

AGE: 16

Beckham McCart is another prodigy on the rise as the surfing talent in Brevard County does not stop. He became the U16 national champion last year and will continue to improve with each competition.

SCHOOL: Homeschool
AGE: 17

Kylee Pulcini, at 17, has already made a name for herself among the many talented professional surfers on the Space Coast. She has three top 13 finishes in her last three and was the U18 national champion in 2023.

Michael Quint was a member of the Eau Gallie basketball team and track team.

Brady Hart decided to reclassify and leave high school a year early, as he led Cocoa High to a third straight state championship. One of the top quarterbacks in the nation, Hart was named Florida’s 2024 Dairy Farmers Mr. Football.

Multi-sport athlete Filosa was a very talented volleyball player and, of course, a track and field athlete. Her talents in track and field made her one of the top in the state in the high jump. She will continue her high jumping at Florida State University.

Tom and Suzie Wasdin are longtime Brevard County entrepreneurs, community supporters, and philanthropists. Tom, an NCAA Final Four basketball coach and Brevard Sports Ambassador, was inducted into the Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame in 2015.

The meet-and-greet will include an opportunity to talk with the area’s sports royalty. Dinner and the induction proceeding, which will include compelling video tributes to each inductee, will follow.

The Brevard County High School Breakfast of Champions recognition awards will be held Saturday, May 24, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., also at Eastern Florida State College.

The main athletic building on the Melbourne Campus hosts the Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame. Portraits of the Hall of Famers are displayed on the wall in the building’s main hallway, which runs parallel to the gym and outside the athletic department offices.

Space Coast Daily created the Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame in 2011 and has inducted over 200 of Brevard County’s most outstanding athletes, coaches, and sports personalities. Eastern Florida State’s Titan Fieldhouse on the Melbourne Campus hosts the Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame. Portraits of the Hall of Famers are displayed on the wall in the building’s main hallway, which runs parallel to the gym and outside the athletic department offices.
