BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – A Titusville man who sexually battered a seven-year-old family member dozens of times and repeatedly had sex with an 11-year-old babysitter faces life in prison without parole after prosecutors convicted him at trial.
A Brevard County jury found Kristiane Calero guilty as charged on June 17 of ten counts of sexual battery on a victim younger than 12, a capital felony; two counts of lewd or lascivious molestation of a victim younger than 12, a life felony; and one count of providing obscene material to a minor, a third-degree felony.
According to Matt Reed, 18th Judicial Circuit Public Information Officer, Calero, 44, confessed to the sex crimes to Titusville police investigators in 2022. Still, the State Attorney’s Office made no plea offer to resolve the case.
Instead, Assistant State Attorneys Kerri-Ann McGuire and Jennifer Mostert proceeded to trial to pursue the strongest possible conviction and sentence for the man.
Calero told police the sex crimes happened at his apartment off South Park Avenue in early 2022 in the months following his wife’s death from COVID-19.
Besides the sex acts, Calero said he showed online pornography to the younger victim. The girls confirmed details in testimony at his trial.
“I’m happy the jury listened to all the evidence and followed the law,” McGuire said.
Circuit Judge Curt Jacobus scheduled sentencing for August 20.
