BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – A bicyclist has died after crash Tuesday morning involving a pickup truck on Babcock Street, according to the Melbourne Police Department.

The bicyclist has been identified as 79-year-old Michael Gallagher from Palm Bay.

Officers responded to the scene at approximately 7:41 a.m. on July 22 after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a collision between a vehicle and a bicycle near the intersection of Babcock Street and Florida Avenue.

Upon arrival, police found the injured Gallagher lying in the roadway. Brevard County Fire Rescue crews provided emergency medical care on site before transporting Gallagher to Holmes Regional Medical Center as a trauma alert. Sadly, he was pronounced dead a short time later.

According to a preliminary investigation, both the bicyclist and a Ford F-150 were traveling north on Babcock Street when the cyclist began changing lanes from the outside lane into the inside lane, where the pickup truck was already traveling.

The bicycle struck the passenger side of the truck, causing the rider to fall onto the roadway.
