BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an emergency landing made by a small aircraft on Thursday afternoon that temporarily shut down a major roadway.

Authorities said the single-engine plane, a privately owned CompAir CA6.2, was forced to make an emergency landing around 1 p.m. after the pilot reported engine trouble.

The pilot brought the aircraft down safely on State Road 407, about one mile south of Interstate 95. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the pilot was unharmed and able to exit the plane without injury.

The Florida Department of Transportation reported that all lanes of SR 407 between State Road 528 and I-95 were closed following the incident. The southbound I-95 exit ramp at mile marker 212 leading to SR 407 was also shut down while emergency crews responded and worked to clear the scene.

Photos from the scene, taken by Alexis Cruz, show the aircraft resting on the roadway with law enforcement vehicles nearby.

Officials have not released the pilot’s name. The Federal Aviation Administration is expected to assist in the investigation to determine the cause of the engine malfunction.
