Witnesses Report Excessive Speed Before Deadly I-95 Motorcycle Crash

A 52-year-old Winter Springs man died Saturday afternoon after losing control of his motorcycle on Interstate 95, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers said the crash occurred around 4:45 p.m. near mile marker 228, just south of Deering Parkway in North Brevard County.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — A 52-year-old Winter Springs man died Saturday afternoon after losing control of his motorcycle on Interstate 95, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash occurred around 4:45 p.m. near mile marker 228, just south of Deering Parkway in North Brevard County.

The rider was traveling south in the inside lane on a Yamaha FJR1300 when he entered a curve in the roadway.

According to the FHP crash report, witnesses told investigators the motorcycle was traveling above the posted speed limit when the rider failed to negotiate the curve properly.

The bike veered off the left shoulder and slammed into a guardrail.

The impact threw the motorcyclist from the motorcycle. Troopers said he was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other vehicles were involved.

FHP investigators remained on scene for several hours, reconstructing the crash and reviewing witness statements. The man’s name has not yet been publicly released pending next-of-kin notification.

The crash remains under investigation.
