Melbourne Boys and Bayside Girls take home CCC Titles

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Each year, the Cape Coast Conference tournament is filled with intensity and high-level competition as teams from around the county try to take home the crown as the county’s best for the season.
The CCC tournament began in 2024, but teams have competed for many years against opponents from the opposite side of the county.
MELBOURNE BOYS

The Melbourne Bulldogs have put together another solid season, as they often do, under legendary head coach Michael Soliven. The Bulldogs opened last week at Palm Bay, which has looked like the most impressive team in the county this season.
The Pirates coasted past the Bulldogs, 60-40, in a non-Cape Coast Conference game.
After defeating Satellite 49-40 in the first round, Melbourne advanced to face Viera in the second round. A battle between two excellent head coaches, the matchup between Soliven of Melbourne and Keith of Viera went to the Bulldogs, who won 65-54.
Palm Bay cruised to convincing victories in its first two rounds, winning by 30 and 15 points. However, the Pirates needed a near-perfect outing to beat Melbourne, especially without leading scorer Omar Clarke. Palm Bay entered the CCC championship with a county-best 16-2 record. With a winning streak and the 2024 CCC title on its side, the team was confident heading into the game.
Palm Bay and Melbourne went down to the wire, but it was the Bulldogs who prevailed, edging the Pirates 61-57 to win the CCC title.
BAYSIDE GIRLS

At 14-8 on the season, the Bayside Bears have played one of the most difficult schedules in Florida. Bayside has defeated every Brevard County opponent it has faced this season, with most of those wins coming by wide margins.
The Bears dominated Edgewood in the first round before narrowly defeating Heritage in the second round, 54-49, marking their closest game against an in-county opponent this season.
In the championship, Bayside faced the Viera Hawks, whom it beat earlier in the season, 50-43. Viera, meanwhile, has also put together a strong season at 13-5. After defeating Melbourne 59-51 in the second round, the Hawks were ready to compete for the CCC title.
With an in-county winning streak on the line, Bayside knew it was in for a battle, as the previous meeting between the two teams had been decided by just seven points.
Never wavering, Bayside handled business as it has all season, defeating Viera 51-29 to win the CCC championship. Bayside has three games remaining as it looks to enter postseason play on a hot streak. The Bears’ season finale will be another matchup with the Hawks, which is expected to be another strong test to close out the season.
