Palm Bay Police: Masked Suspects Open Fire in Late-Night Shooting at Castaways Point Leaving Three Injured

Police Investigators say suspects wearing ski masks fired into a vehicle; no arrests made

BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA — The Palm Bay Police Department is investigating a shooting that left three people injured late Friday night at Castaways Point Park, according to Palm Bay Police Sgt. Vincent Galioto.
According to police, officers were dispatched at approximately 11:58 p.m. on Friday, January 23, to the area of Palm Bay Road and Main Street after receiving reports of gunshots.
Officers conducted an initial search of the area but were unable to immediately locate evidence of a shooting.
While officers continued canvassing the area, police received a call at approximately 12:12 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, from Palm Bay Community Hospital, reporting that three victims with gunshot-related injuries had arrived at the facility.
Police identified the victims as a 21-year-old man, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds; an 18-year-old man, who suffered a single gunshot wound described as a graze; and a 16-year-old female, who sustained a graze wound along with additional injuries caused by broken glass.
Authorities said all injuries are considered non-life-threatening.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives determined the shooting occurred at Castaways Point Park, located at 2990 Bay Boulevard, during a gathering.
Investigators believe the victims were seated together inside a vehicle when they were approached by multiple individuals wearing ski masks, who then opened fire into the vehicle.
Police acknowledged information circulating that a black Mercedes sedan and/or a black Mercedes SUV may have been involved in the incident; however, detectives emphasized that this information has not yet been confirmed.
The case remains a very active investigation, and no arrests have been made at this time.
