BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – A Brevard County Jail employee was taken into custody Tuesday after authorities say she engaged in a sexual relationship with an inmate and assisted in bringing contraband into the Brevard County Jail Complex.
According to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, 33-year-old Lisa Marie Sanders of Palm Bay was arrested on Jan. 27 after admitting to investigators that she had an ongoing sexual relationship with an inmate housed at the Brevard County Jail.
Deputies say the relationship began earlier this month while Sanders was working inside the facility.
Officials said Sanders, who was employed by a food services contractor at the jail, also provided the inmate with three packs of tobacco cigarettes and used a two-way communication device to coordinate the introduction of additional contraband into the facility.
The sheriff’s office charged Sanders with staff sexual misconduct, introducing contraband into a detention facility and misuse of a communication device, according to the affidavit.
Prosecutors say she communicated with the inmate through phone calls and electronic messages to arrange deliveries of prohibited items.
This arrest comes just days after another Brevard County corrections employee was accused of bringing illegal drugs into the jail and distributing them to inmates.
Sanders is scheduled to make her first appearance in Brevard County court Wednesday afternoon.
The investigation remains active as authorities continue to review potential additional charges.
