BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — BWX Technologies Inc. (BWXT) has opened a new 11,600-square-foot Digital Center in Melbourne, establishing a hub for the company’s enterprise-wide digital transformation efforts and marking its formal entry into Florida’s Space Coast technology community.

BWXT, a Fortune 1000 company with approximately 10,000 employees, provides nuclear technologies and services for defense, clean energy, space exploration, nuclear medicine, and environmental restoration.

The company operates 17 manufacturing facilities worldwide and maintains strategic partnerships supporting U.S. and Canadian government operations at more than two dozen additional locations.

Company officials said the new Melbourne facility will serve as the central engine for initiatives designed to streamline operations, improve decision-making, and enhance responsiveness across BWXT’s nuclear and defense businesses.

The center will support efforts to simplify workflows, reduce complexity, and strengthen overall operational performance.

“This strategic investment underscores BWXT’s commitment to remaining at the forefront of technology and innovation, ensuring the company can meet the evolving needs of its customers in a rapidly changing digital landscape,” said Rex D. Geveden, BWXT president and chief executive officer.

“This new Digital Center demonstrates our commitment to continuous improvement throughout our operations and, importantly, grants us access to a very large pool of technical talent on Florida’s Space Coast.”

“This strategic investment underscores BWXT’s commitment to remaining at the forefront of technology and innovation, ensuring the company can meet the evolving needs of its customers in a rapidly changing digital landscape,” said Rex D. Geveden, BWXT president and chief executive officer.

The Melbourne Digital Center will concentrate on four primary focus areas: digital transformation, smart operations, artificial intelligence and automation, and cybersecurity.

According to BWXT, digital transformation efforts will expand the company’s use of modern collaboration tools and enterprise platforms to better respond to market demands. Smart operations initiatives will integrate advanced technologies aimed at improving efficiency, quality and agility.

The center will also develop AI-enabled solutions to support data-driven decision-making and enhance cybersecurity protections to safeguard sensitive information and mission-critical systems.

BWXT said the Melbourne location was selected because of the region’s strong base of digital and engineering talent. The center is expected to support both the company’s near-term modernization goals and future expansion into product digitization and advanced AI applications.

The facility has capacity for more than 40 employees and was brought online approximately seven months after the project was initiated, a timeline the company said reflects its emphasis on speed, innovation, and execution.
