BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The National Weather Service has issued a Special Marine Warning for portions of the Atlantic waters off Florida’s east coast, including areas from the Volusia-Brevard County Line to Sebastian Inlet, both nearshore and offshore, as well as waters from Flagler Beach to the Volusia-Brevard County Line.
The warning is in effect until 5:30 p.m. EDT and covers the following marine zones:
– Volusia-Brevard County Line to Sebastian Inlet (0–20 nautical miles)
– Volusia-Brevard County Line to Sebastian Inlet (20–60 nautical miles)
– Flagler Beach to Volusia-Brevard County Line (20–60 nautical miles)
Meteorologists say strong thunderstorms moving across the Atlantic waters could produce hazardous conditions for boaters, including sudden wind gusts, lightning, heavy rain, and rough seas.
A Special Marine Warning is typically issued when strong or severe thunderstorms capable of producing winds of 34 knots (39 mph) or greater develop over coastal waters, posing a significant danger to small vessels.
Boaters and mariners in the affected areas are urged to seek safe harbor immediately, monitor weather conditions closely, and remain alert for rapidly changing conditions.
Officials also remind boaters that storms over the Atlantic can intensify quickly, creating dangerous waves and reduced visibility, even for experienced mariners.
The National Weather Service will continue to monitor conditions and issue additional warnings if necessary. Mariners should check the latest marine forecasts and weather alerts before heading onto the water.
