BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — Republican gubernatorial candidate Byron Donalds brought his campaign’s focus on law enforcement and immigration policy to Brevard County on Tuesday, hosting a public safety roundtable as part of his statewide “Defending the Florida Dream” tour.
The April 7 event, held at Carroll Distributing in Melbourne, drew local officials, law enforcement leaders, and community members for a discussion centered on crime, public safety policy, and the role of government in maintaining order.
Doors opened at 10 a.m., with the forum framed as an opportunity for community engagement on pressing safety issues.
Donalds, a sitting U.S. congressman and a leading contender in the 2026 race to succeed term-limited Gov. Ron DeSantis, used the roundtable to outline a “law-and-order” agenda that would guide his administration if elected.
“Florida must remain a law-and-order state,” Donalds said during the discussion, emphasizing support for law enforcement and strict adherence to existing laws.
Focus on immigration, enforcement, and local cooperation
A central theme of the roundtable was immigration enforcement and the allocation of public resources.
Donalds proposed restricting taxpayer-funded benefits to U.S. citizens and legal residents, arguing that public funds should prioritize those “who follow the law.”
He also called for expanded cooperation between state and local agencies and federal immigration authorities, as well as a statewide ban on so-called sanctuary policies.

The candidate described these measures as part of a broader “zero tolerance” approach to crime and illegal activity.
“As governor, I will ensure full cooperation between state and federal authorities and make sure every level of government is accountable,” Donalds said.
The roundtable featured participation from Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey and Florida House Majority Leader Tyler Sirois, underscoring Donalds’ support among local and state officials.
The Melbourne stop marked the second event in Donalds’ multi-city campaign tour, which launched earlier in the week and is expected to include additional stops focused on issues such as health care, education, and economic opportunity.
Donalds enters the Republican primary with significant backing, including an endorsement from former President Donald Trump and support from numerous Florida sheriffs and GOP leaders.
The public safety roundtable reflects a broader campaign strategy centered on conservative priorities such as public safety, limited government spending, and stricter immigration enforcement—issues likely to remain central as the 2026 gubernatorial race intensifies.
The Melbourne event also highlighted Donalds’ effort to connect directly with voters and local officials, positioning public safety as a cornerstone of his bid to lead the state.
Republican Gubernatorial candidate Byron Donalds is a graduate of Florida State University and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in finance and marketing. Elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2016, Byron represented Hendry County and east Collier County in the State Capitol.
