VIDEO: Hit Movie ‘Matinee’ Filmed In Cocoa Village 24 Years Ago, Portrayed Strand Theater In 1960s Key West

ABOVE VIDEO: The movie trailer for “Matinee” shows clips that were filmed inside the Cocoa Village Playhouse. During the filming, State Road 520 would temporarily close so traffic noise wasn’t picked up by the microphones.

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA VILLAGE, FLORIDA – In 1993, the Cocoa Village Playhouse took center stage in the hit movie “Matinee,” starring John Goodman and rising star Naomi Watts.

Portrayed as the Strand Theater in 1960s Key West, Cocoa Village Playhouse’s exterior received a temporary adjustment to its front entrance, with a large marquee.

The playhouse’s interior was also shown throughout the film.
