State Senator Debbie Mayfield Announces Run for Florida House Seat 32, Will Take On Former U.S. Rep. Dave Weldon

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Florida Senator Debbie Mayfield (R-Indialantic) has announced her candidacy for the Florida House of Representatives in District 32.
Mayfield has been a member of the Florida Senate for the last eight years, and is terming out. She has already served in the Florida House of Representatives for eight years, from 2008 to 2016, and can run again because the term limit law only applies to consecutive terms.
Also running for the District 32 seat is former Republican U.S. Congressman Dave Weldon, a physician who also lives in Indialantic. Weldon was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1994 and then won reelection seven times before stepping down in 2008.
Longtime Brevard politician Thad Altman of Indialantic currently holds the Florida House District 32 seat and is also is being termed out. Altman is seeking the Brevard County Commission District 5 seat currently held by Chairman Jason Steele, who is retiring from the commission.

On Friday, Congressman Bill Posey announced his decision to suspend his re-election campaign and endorse former Florida Senate President Mike Haridopolos. Also on Friday, Haridopolos, of Indian Harbour Beach, submitted his candidate application and $10,440 qualifying fee.
Three other candidates are on the Republican ballot, including John Hearton of Satellite Beach and Joe Babits of Vero Beach. Democratic candidates on the ballot are Sandy Kennedy of Cocoa and Daniel McDow of West Melbourne.
Florida Congressional District 8 includes Brevard, Indian River, and portions of Orange Counties. The district has a voter registration makeup of 46% Republican, 26% Democrat, and 28% Other.
Mayfield and Weldon will now battle it out in the upcoming Republican Primary Election on Aug. 20, with the winner taking on the Democrat candidate in the General Election on Nov. 5. Currently, only Juan Jose Hinojosa of Rockledge is the sole Democratic candidate for District 32.
Among the endorsements Weldon has received are that of Sheriff Wayne Ivey, Rep. Posey, Florida State Rep. Tyler Sirois, former Florida Senate Speaker Haridopolos and former Florida House Speaker Steve Crisafulli.
Mayfield recieved former President Donald Trump’s endorsement via his Truth Justice social media venue.
