6th Annual Vote To End Childhood Hunger Raffle & Bake Sale
BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – Supervisor of Elections Lori Scott and her staff proudly presented a $6,010 check today to United Way/Project Hunger.
The check represents donations received from Supervisor Scott’s 6th Annual Vote to End Childhood Hunger Raffle & Bake Sale and is approximately 10 percent of the total funds raised in this year’s Project Hunger fundraising drive.
Among those present for the check presentation were Liz Lee of United Way and Project Hunger committee members Dick Beagley, Bunny Finney, Darcia Jones Francey, Delores Spearman and Jonnie Swann.
“As a mother, I am very passionate about this program,” said Scott.
“My staff embraced the idea of this bake sale from the very start. We are honored this money will make a difference in the lives of children in our community.”
This year’s raffle included 10 gift baskets, all valued more than $700. In addition, the supervisor’s office offered a “Favorite Recipes” election office cookbook which was available by donation.
Project Hunger provides access to proper nutrition over the summer months for children that receive free, or reduced price lunches during the school year.
In addition, a portion of the proceeds will supplement United Way’s Feed and Read program.
This program provides one-on-one reading mentors and distributes new books to children throughout Brevard County.
“My staff and I want to thank all of this year’s participants for their overwhelming generosity,” said Scott.
“The 2015 event was truly a sweet success raising more than double the amount raised last year.”
