Dump Truck Driver Killed After Incident on Pineda Causeway in Merritt Island

BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – The driver of a dump truck was killed on Monday after the truck sustained a tire tread separation while heading westbound on Pineda Causeway. 

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the truck, built in 1992, overturned and caught fire around noon on Monday as a result of the separation.

The victim has yet to be identified.

The FHP adds that Pineda Causeway westbound has been shut down as a result of the incident.

The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the driver of a dump truck was killed on Monday after the truck suffered a tire tread separation on Pineda Causeway in Merritt Island, causing it to overturn and catch fire.
