Grant Extends School Age Child Care Program

This five-year grant named “Zoo Explorers South,” has a total funding of $3,080,000 and will serve about 280 students per day through School Age Child Care at four elementary schools in the south area of Brevard County including Croton Elementary School, Dr. W. J. Creel Elementary School, Sherwood Elementary School and Sabal Elementary School.
The grant will provide academic support in reading, science, math and technology while offering experiential opportunities through the Brevard Zoo.
With funding provided by three previous 21st Century Community Learning Center grants, Brevard Public Schools’ Adult and Community Education Department is currently providing after school services through School Age Child Care at 12 elementary schools.
These grant programs: Space Explorers (Riverview Elementary School, Coquina Elementary School and South Lake Elementary School), Art Explorers (Roy Allen Elementary School, Palm Bay Elementary School, Port Malabar Elementary School, Riviera Elementary School and University Park Elementary School), and Zoo Explorers (Cambridge Elementary School, Endeavour Elementary School, Golfview Elementary School and Saturn Elementary School) also provide academic support in reading, science, math and technology while offering experiential opportunities with partners that include DNC Parks and Resorts at the Kennedy Space Center, the Brevard Cultural Alliance, the Brevard Zoo, the Titusville YMCA and Health First – Pro-Health and Fitness.
All four 21st CCLC grants are managed by Jackie Francisco, Program Development Coordinator, School Age Child Care.
