Final Opportunity Until Fall

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Up and down the Space Coast, high school football teams closed out spring practice with a flurry Friday night, trying to impress coaches and fans with inspired play heading into summer.

For many young players it was a chance to make an impression and for some upperclassmen, the annual spring games are an opportunity to step up to a new position  or solidify their hold on one they had earned previously.

Coaches were given a chance to try out new offenses and develop new defensive schemes, while players also received valauble experience under game-like conditions.

Even cheerleaders and referees were on hand to put in some training time before the first games of the fall season begin in mid-August.

Here’s a rundown of Friday’s scoreboard and brief highlights from games involving Brevard teams:

SATELLITE 19, EAU GALLIE 0.  (Scorpions defense prevents Commodores’ big plays to post shutout)

MELBOURNE 15, ASTRONAUT 0.  (Defense keys Bulldogs win over War Eagles)

PALM BAY 17, SEMINOLE RIDGE 0. (Caleb Alves scores TD for Pirates)

BAYSIDE 41, MERRITT ISLAND 0.  (Mustangs fall behind 14 points and never recover against Bears)

COCOA BEACH 35, HERITAGE 34. (QB helps Minutemen nip Panthers)

COCOA 26, DR. PHILLIPS 0. (Tenacious defense drives Tigers to victory)
