BCC Sets Graduation Record
By Space Coast Daily // June 29, 2012
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard Community College graduated 1,944 students in May, representing the highest number of graduates during one term in the school’s 52–year history.
“This is a remarkable achievement that speaks to the outstanding quality of our students, faculty and staff,” said BCC President Dr. Jim Richey.
“I’m extremely proud and am sure residents across Brevard County feel the same way.”
It generally takes several weeks after the May 10 commencement ceremonies for BCC’s Registrar’s Office to certify that all degree and certificate requirements have been met in preparation for mailing official diplomas and certificates to graduates.
Eight Percent Increase
The record–setting spring 2012 numbers represent an eight percent increase over last spring’s 1,784 graduation count, with growth in both the number of two–year associate degrees conferred and an increase in students achieving career–focused diplomas and certificates that allow them to enter or advance in the work place.
Commencement featured two ceremonies, one for students of the Melbourne and Palm Bay campuses, and another for students who attend classes in Titusville and Cocoa.
Videos featuring highlights from both ceremonies have been posted on the BCC website, YouTube and Facebook. Spring 2012 graduates also receive a copy of the full commencement video when they join the BCC Alumni Association.
The breakdown of graduates by type of degree, diploma or certificate is: Associate in arts, 1,170; Associate in applied science, 24; Associate in science, 204; Applied technology diploma, 4; College–credit certificate, 287; Educator Preparation Institute certificate,12; and Postsecondary adult vocational certificate, 243.
Enrollment and registration for BCC’s fall term is under way, with an application and tuition payment deadline of Aug. 9 for the full 16–week term that begins on Aug 20.
