BREVARD COUNTY, MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – A 74-year-old woman crossing Courtenay Parkway was killed Friday night when she walked into the path of an oncoming pickup truck.

Sgt. Kim Montes of the Florida Highway Patrol said Nicolas Charalambous of Merritt Island, 53, was traveling north on Courtenay Parkway near Venetian Way in the left lane in a 2000 Dodge Ram pickup about 9:08 Friday when Anna Lenke Burns of Merritt Island entered his lane suddenly.

Montes said Charalambous attempted to take evasive actions to avoid a collision by swerving and braking, but ended up striking and killing Burns, who failed to yield the right of way.

Charalambous was not injured or cited by troopers for the accident.
