Viera's 9/10 Softball Title Streak Ends

BREVARD COUNTY • WEST MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Three district All-Stars softball championships have been decided in Little League’s District 2 and two All-Stars baseball titles will be up for grabs tonight.

In 9/10 softball, history was made when Eau Gallie Blue defeated Viera/Suntree 6-3 to win the 2012 District 2 title.
The victory by Eau Gallie Blue halted Viera/Suntree’s incredible run of consecutive District 2 championships in this Little League All-Stars division at five straight.
Eau Gallie Blue now advances to the Section 2 tournament July 13 as the District 2 champion with games played at Viera Regional Park.
In Majors softball, Viera/Suntree beat Eau Gallie 7-5 to claim the District 2 crown and advance to the Section 2 championship tournament July 13 at Viera Regional Park.
South Beaches won the District 2 Juniors softball title by upending Palm Bay 5-3 and advances to the Section 2 tournament.
Semifinals for District 2 were played Thursday night in the 9/10 and 10/11 baseball divisions.
In 9/10 baseball, Eau Gallie (4-1) topped West Melbourne (4-1) 25-11 and Viera/Suntree Gold (5-0) shut out South Beaches (3-1) 11-0.
Tonight’s 7:15 p.m. 9/10 baseball District 2 championship game at Rodes Park will be a showdown between Eau Gallie and Viera/Suntree Gold.
In 10/11 baseball, VIera/Suntree (4-0) eliminated Palm Bay East (1-2) 13-3 and Beachside (3-0) stopped Palm Bay West 4-3.
Viera/Suntree will meet Beachside at 7:15 p.m. tonight at Rodes Park for the 10/11 District baseball title.

District 22
At Holder Park in Mims, a 9/10 baseball matchup found Merritt Island battling Port St. John in a see-saw game.
Alex Doane’s double and Brandon Browning’s two RBIs led Port St. John to seven runs in the 4th inning. But, with the game on the line, Merritt Island’s Julius Luchs had a triple in the 6th and later scored to lead his team to a 9-7 victory.
Also in District 22, Merritt Island and Rockledge played the final game in the 10/11 baseball division. Ryan Imka was 1-for-3 with a home run to deep left field and Mason Marconi went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Rockledge.
For Merritt Island, Andrew Beardall pitched four solid innings for the 13-5 win, he also went 4-for-5 at the plate with a double and scored four runs. Dustin Ashley was 3-for-4 with four Merritt Island RBIs.
In the Majors baseball division at W.W. James Park in Titusville, Merritt Island beat Mims 17-7 in 4 innings. Kyle Boss, Nick Avdellas and Chase Victor had homers for Merritt Island.
In the Junior Baseball division at Holder Park, Rockledge outscored Merritt Island Senior 21-2 in 5 innings. Mike Grennon and Anton Steinmetz scored for Merritt Island Senior’s two runs.
