Tune-Up For Conference Opener

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – With precious little rest and preparation time following Tuesday’s three-set loss at Polk State College, the Brevard Community College Titans volleyball team faces Friday and Saturday matches at the Hillsborough Community College tournament.

BCC fell to 2-3 with the loss at Polk and is looking to get things in order in advance of its Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference opener at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Palm Beach State.

To that end BCC head coach Herb Tokumoto is stressing discipline and teamwork.

“Everyone we face at this tournament is the caliber that we want to play,” Tokumoto said. “These teams will challenge us with their competitiveness.”

BCC plays St. Petersburg Community College at 2 p.m. Friday and State College of Florida at 4:30 p.m.  Then Saturday it faces Hillsborough at 3 p.m.

Heading into the tournament, Ashley Gonzalez and Alicia Vaccarelli are BCC’s leading scorers and Sara Watkins has a match high of 14 digs.

As a team, BCC is averaging seven blocks a match.
