Brevard Cops Host Motorcycle Training Event

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Motor Unit participated in the second annual Space Coast Motorcycle Safety Training and Trials on Saturday, Sept. 22.

The event, which took place at Melbourne Square Mall, was hosted by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, Cocoa Police Department and Melbourne Police Department.

More than 50 law enforcement officers from around the State of Florida competed in the motorcycle skills competition in which officers demonstrated the skills and techniques necessary to safely negotiate obstacles they may expect to encounter during daily enforcement.

Several members of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Motor Unit were recognized for their outstanding performances at the event:
• Corporal Chris Ferrante: 1st Place, Individual Metric Division and 3rd Place Overall Individual
• Corporal Chris Ferrante and Deputy Frank Santiago: 1st Place, Overall Team
• Deputy Frank Santiago: 2nd Place, Individual Metric Division and 4th Place Overall Individual
• Sergeant Scott Behringer: 3rd Place, Overall in the Challenge Ride
• Corporal Chris Ferrante and Deputy Bryan Kanipe, 3rd Place Team Slowride

The event raised funds to benefit “Families of the Shield,” a non-profit organization that supports law enforcement officers and their families in times of need or in the event of an officer’s death.
