State Road 524 Ramp Closed For Hours
BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – A tanker carrying waster waster overturned this afternoon in Cocoa blocking a ramp from U.S. Highway 1 to the area.
Cocoa Police Department Public Information Officer Barbara Matthews said the tanker was on the ramp on State Road 538 westbound from U.S. Highway 1 about 1:40 p.m. when the incident happened.
“The driver took the ramp too quickly and the vehicle rolled over,” Matthews said. “At this time, there are multiple departments and gencies at the scene facilitating the cleanup.”
She said none of the waste water spilled, however, a small amount of diesel fuel did leak from the truck.
Matthews said the driver was not hurt, but is being charged with careless driving and improper placard. In addition, he faces additional charges for using agricultural fuel in the truck.
The west-bound ramp from U.S. Highway 1 onto State Road 524 will remain closed for several more hours while the cleanup takes place.
