Florida Tech Pursues Another Top-10 Finish

ORLANDO, FLORIDA – Florida Tech men’s golf team shot a pair of 13-over-par in the first two rounds of the McDonough Cup at Rio Pinar Country Club on Monday in Orlando.

Sophomore Brandon Lau led the way for the Crimson and Gray with an even-par 72 in the first round. Sophomore Ray Badenhorst came in two strokes behind at two over.

The Panthers finished the opening round with a team score of 301 to sit in fifth place and wrapped up day one of competition in a tie for sixth place..

No. 1 ranked Nova Southeastern led the way through round one with a 294. Nova would finish round two at 291 to hold a two-stroke lead over Lynn University at the top of the team standings.

Florida Tech remained consistent in round two, putting the same number on the board. Junior Justin Kalanquin led the way in round two with a two-over 74. Badenhorst notched a 75 and Lau scored a 77.

After two rounds, Lau and Badenhorst sit as the top scorers for the Panthers, each in a tie for 19th. The two are just five strokes off the pace.

Host-team Rollins College finished the day tied with Florida Tech in sixth, while another Sunshine State Conference opponent, Florida Southern, sits in third.

The tournament will conclude Tuesday as the Panthers will look for their third top-10 finish of the season.
