BREVARD COUNTY • WEST MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Brevard Community College’s women’s soccer team moved one step closer to the NJCAA Division I postseason on Friday by defeating Broward College 2-0 at Max K. Rodes Park in West Melbourne.

BCC improved to 7-1 overall and more importantly 3-0 in the Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference and the NJCAA Region 8 standings. Broward fell to 0-3-1 in the conference and region.
Next up for BCC is a 7 p.m. Monday game at conference and region foe Polk State which is 1-1-1. A BCC victory would advance the Titans to the postseason but they head into the game at Auburndale seriously shorthanded due to injuries and a red card suspension.
BCC, Polk and Broward play each other three times each to determine who advances to the postseason.
Broward also received a red card suspension on Friday and had five players – to two for BCC – receive yellow cards in the physical, chippy, contentious game.
BCC freshman midfielder Sue Kumaning scored her second goal of the season in the 11th minute on a rebound off a free kick by sophomore Courtney Hueston to put the Titans up 1-0. Sophomore striker and co-captain Lois Edvardsson netted her seventh goal off a throw-in from sophomore and Merritt Island High graduate Chelsey Seng in the 87th minute for the final margin.
While the victory was vital BCC head coach Jeff Carr had little to say given the nature of the game.
