Basketball Players Demonstrate Talent

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Men’s basketball sophomore and co-captain Nyles Evans and women’s basketball freshman Tomoriya Hamm are the Brevard Community College student-athletes of the week for the week ending Jan. 13.

Evans, a 5-foot, 11-inch, 170-pound guard from North Canton, Ohio, led BCC with 17 points, five assists and five steals in its 78-66 Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference victory at Indian River State College last Saturday.

“Nyles was absolutely great in a key opening conference game against Indian River,” BCC head coach Jeremy Shuman said. “Nyles carried us on his back at times, and willed us to a win. It is very exciting for him to be honored with this award.”

Evans is second in scoring at 16.4 points per game, first in steals with 2.9 and second in assists with 3.1 for BCC, which is 15-4 overall and 1-0 in conference.

BCC women’s head coach Renee Bellamy cited the spirited play of Hamm, a 5-foot-10 guard from Fort Lauderdale.

“She plays hard,” Bellamy said. “Her numbers aren’t flashy but her value to us lies in her heart, her hustle and her desire both in rebounding and on the defensive end.”
