BCC Softball Claims Two Wins In Triple Crown Tourney

Titans Play Two More Games Sunday

BREVARD COUNTY, FL  – Brevard Community College’s softball team won two of its three games on Saturday’s opening day of the Triple Crown College Classic tournament in St. Augustine.

BCC beat Tallahassee Community College 6-5, lost to St. Petersburg College 6-4 and trounced Aiken (S.C.) Technical 12-4 in six innings.

The Titans improved to 4-5 on the young season and plays two tournament games on Sunday, meeting Hillsborough Community College at 9 a.m. and Florida State College Jacksonville at 1.

Sophomore Kat Ammons had a big day at the plate for BCC with four hits and nine total runs batted in over the last two games. Ammons smacked two home runs against Aiken, a grand slam and a two-run shot.

Titans sophomore Shannen Marchu was the winning pitcher in the first and third games and helped herself with a two-run home run and four runs batted in against Tallahassee.

Sophomore Jami Cordell was the losing pitcher against St. Petersburg. Ammons went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in against St. Petersburg while classmate Nichole Mills went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs batted in.

“We came out aggressive in the first game,” BCC assistant coach Bob Yanczewski said. “It carried over to the second game and the bats just exploded in the third game. It was a pretty consistent day for us overall. We were satisfied with the consistency we showed in first game. We battled right to end in the second game. Kat’s bat was enormous in the third game.”
