Bulldogs March Into Girls State Soccer Title Game

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA –The Melbourne Bulldogs are back.

After winning back-to-back girls state soccer titles in 2009 and 2010, Melbourne defeated Lakewood Ranch 2-0 Friday night to earn a berth in the Class 4A state championship game.

During the 2008-2009 season, Melbourne beat Douglas 3-0 in Tampa to win the Class 6A girls state soccer title.

The following year, the Bulldogs topped Seminole 2-1 in overtime in Tampa to secure the 2009-2010 state championship.

Keira McCarthy scored both goals Friday night for the Bulldogs, who are now 24-0-1 this season under coach Rosanna Lord.

Melbourne will host George Jenkins at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9 with the winner claiming the Class 4A state championship trophy.
