SPACE COAST DAILY PREP ALL-STARS TO RECEIVE AWARD CERTIFICATES AT MEDIA DAY FEB. 10

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – 2012 was a banner year for prep football in Brevard County and an outstanding season that showcased the talents of players at schools throughout the Space Coast.

Over the past year, Space Coast Daily has highlighted the noteworthy accomplishments of varsity football teams competing in Brevard and now it’s time to shine the spotlight on those players deserving of being included on the SpaceCoastDaily.com All-Star Team.

2012 PREP FOOTBALL AWARDS AND RECOGNITION CEREMONY

Space Coast Daily has created four distinct awards for four separate categories to go along with the 2012 All-Star Team selections. Each of these recipients will be honored AND PRESENTED WITH ALL-STAR CERTIFICATES by Brevard County at 2 p.m. at the Space Coast Daily Spring Media Day on Sunday, Feb. 10 at Maverick Sports Grill on Merritt Island on the outdoor stage.

The 2012 SpaceCoastDaily.com Offensive Player of the Year is senior quarterback David Dessent of Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High School.

Dessent showed true leadership this season for the Cocoa Beach Minutemen as he led the squad to a record of 9-2 and a bowl game victory over Lecanto.

He shattered Brevard County’s long standing record for passing yardage in a single season and gave his team confidence in every offensive series they played all year.

After sitting much of his junior year because of broken thumb, Dessent enjoyed a number of spectacular contests  in 2012 for the Minutemen, including six TD passes thrown in one game alone against Eau Gallie.

His 38 touchdown passes as a senior led the entire state of Florida.

At 5-foot-9 and 205 pounds, Kable has constantly had to make adjustments against bigger and stronger opponents throughout his high school career.

Kable led the Satellite Scorpions in tackles in every game he played this season.

And he has drawn praise from his coaches as the ultimate team player who possess an above-average football IQ.

Ulmer led the Heritage Panthers to the first-ever playoff run in school history, turning the program into a winner.

In three short years as coach at Heritage, Ulmer stepped in following a winless inaugural season in 2009 under another coach, and guided the Panthers to a record of 10-2 this year and a berth in the Class 6A regional semifinals.

He has established a winning tradition at Heritage and as district runner-ups in 2012, the Panthers are on the map for even bigger success next season.

•The  2012 SpaceCoastDaily.com Rudy Award recipient for inspirational play is senior running back and defender Antwan Lee of Cocoa High School.

Whatever he has been asked to do on the field for the Cocoa Tigers, Antwan Lee has always delivered and as a two-way player, he was a key component of the team’s success as it reached the Class 4A state semifinals this year.

He was among the leading tacklers in Brevard County all year and also was near the top of the leader board in rushing as well as part of Cocoa’s “three-headed monster” rushing attack.

Lee seldom complained when nagging injuries made it difficult to play each week, but through sacrifice and example, he became an inspiration to teammates and coaches for his unselfish play and determination to help Cocoa win.
