BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Wayne Delos Mason, 75, beloved husband, father and grandfather, returned home to the Lord Saturday, April 6, 2013, after a courageous, 25-year battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

He was born in Delaware, New York, August 6, 1937 to Donald Cannon Mason and Elizabeth Maslowski.

Wayne Delos Mason

When he was four years old, Wayne’s parents moved to Gainesville, Florida, where he spent his childhood and young adult life (Go Gators!). While in high school, he joined the U.S. Naval Reserve. After two years at the University of Florida, he decided to become a licensed real estate broker and property manager. He was blessed to handle the sale of many types of real property until his retirement in 2004. He served as an active member of the Gainesville Rotary Club, the Gainesville Christian Businessmen’s Association, and as president of the board of advisors of the Salvation Army.

He enjoyed growing rare and exotic plants in his greenhouse, and served as a director of Kanapaha Botanical Gardens. He had many friends in his church and throughout Gainesville, and Melbourne, Florida, where he and his wife Mary relocated after his retirement to be closer to family. Wayne and Mary were married in the Washington D.C. Temple for time and eternity. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and always tried to pattern his life after the Savior. He was called to serve in many positions in the church, and believed in sharing the truths of the restored gospel with all who would listen. He believed in standing up for truth and traditional values.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Don C. Mason.

Wayne is survived by his wife Mary and five children and their spouses: Margaret (and Scott) Jones, Garrett McLendon, Melissa (and Robert) Grover, Amanda Mason Giles, Vanessa (and Zac) Brodrick. He has 13 grandchildren who are very special to him.

Services will be held Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Viera Ward, 7700 Lake Andrew Dr. Melbourne, FL 32940. A graveside service will be held privately.

In honor of Wayne’s wishes, in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Salvation Army.
