ULA Delta IV Blasts Off Successfully May 24

BREVARD COUNTY • CAPE CANAVERAL AIR FORCE STATION – A United Launch Alliance Delta IV successfully blasted off at 8:27 p.m. on May 24 from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.

This WGS-5 mission marks the 22nd Delta IV launch and the third launch of the Delta IV Medium+ (5,4) launch vehicle configuration.

This WGS mission is the fifth installment of the Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) system. The WGS satellites are an important element of a new highcapacity satellite communications system providing enhanced communications capabilities to our troops in the fi eld for the next decade and beyond.

 FOCUSED ON PERFECT DELIVERY

WGS enables more robust and fl exible execution of Command and Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4lSR), as well as battle management and combat support information functions.

The WGS constellation augments the existing service available through the UHF Follow-on satellite by providing enhanced information broadcast capabilities.
