BREVARD COUNTY • WINTER PARK, FLORIDA – The Sunshine State Conference announced its 2013 preseason poll on Wednesday.

Florida Tech was picked to finish fourth by fellow SSC men’s soccer coaches. This marks the third straight season where the Panthers were selected to finish fourth in the preseason poll.

The Panthers, who finished sixth in the SSC in 2012, received 37 points in the poll, behind No. 20 Tampa (52), defending national champion and preseason No. 1 Lynn (59), and No. 9 Rollins whose 60 points made the Tars the favorite to capture the SSC Championship in 2013. Both Lynn and Rollins each received four first-place votes, while Tampa was given the remaining first place vote.

Florida Tech was picked to finish fourth by fellow SSC men’s soccer coaches. This marks the third straight season where the Panthers were selected to finish fourth in the preseason poll.

Behind the Panthers in the preseason poll were Saint Leo, Eckerd, Barry, Nova Southeastern and Florida Southern, respectively. Three of the first four conference games for the Panthers will be played at home at Rick Stottler Field, and the squad will open SSC play Sept. 28 when it hosts Rollins.

The Panthers are looking to improve upon last season when they finished 3-3-2 in SSC play and 10-4-3 overall. The Panthers will travel to Stetson this Thursday, Aug. 22 for an exhibition contest before opening up the 2013 regular season Sept. 7 against Georgia Southwestern at Rick Stottler Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
