Missing man identified as Shaun Cheney

ABOVE VIDEO: The body of Shaun Cheney was recovered by authorities on Saturday afternoon. The barge worker had been missing since Friday morning.

The body of Beyel Brothers barge worker Shaun Cheney, 25, who has been missing in the Canaveral Barge canal since yesterday at 9 a.m., was recovered Saturday afternoon.

The Brevard Sheriff’s Office dive team and U.S. Coast Guard are searching for a man that authorities believe fell off a barge he was working on in the Barge Canal on Merritt Island this morning.

BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA –  The Brevard Sheriff’s Office dive team and U.S. Coast Guard are searching for Shaun Cheney, 25, a barge worker that authorities believe fell off a barge he was working on in the Barge Canal on Merritt Island this morning.  

Co-workers did not witness Cheney falling into the water, but according to authorities, he was not wearing a life jacket.

Divers and rescue crews are using sonar in their search due to the muddy, low visibility water conditions of the canal to search for Cheney.

Cheney, of Cocoa Beach, is approximately 5-11 tall and 145-150 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

He was last seen on a tug boat at approximately 9 a.m., in the Barge Canal near 99 Dover Avenue in Merritt Island. He was wearing a white shirt, blue jeans, and grey tennis shoes.
