TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA – Governor Rick Scott announced the appointment of David Koenig to the Brevard County Court.

Koenig, 50, of Cocoa, has been an Assistant State Attorney in the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit since 1990. From 2001-2005, Koenig served as the Juvenile Division Chief.

Since 2005, Koenig has been the prosecutor responsible for making the charging decisions in child abuse and sex crime cases in Brevard County.

Koenig received his bachelor’s degree from University of Florida and his law degree from University of Miami. He fills a vacancy created by the appointment of Judge Kelly J. McKibben to the Circuit Court.

EXTENSIVE EXPERIENCE

Following graduation from law school he began his career as an Assistant State Attorney in Brevard County in August of 1990. Koenig has worked in the misdemeanor, felony, intake, juvenile, sex crimes and child abuse divisions. He has been responsible for reviewing all Brevard county sex crimes and child abuse cases submitted to the State Attorney’s Office by law enforcement for a filing decision.

Koenig has extensive experience working with DCF, CPT, law enforcement, victims and their families in the process of making decisions on these types of cases.
