Eastern Florida Closes 2013 With Win Over East Mississippi

Eastern Florida improves to 12-3

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Eastern Florida’s men’s basketball team closed the 2013 portion of its schedule in style on Tuesday, defeating East Mississippi Community College 79-72 on the final day of the Tallahassee Community College Holiday Classic.

Eastern Florida improved to 12-3. East Mississippi fell to 6-2.

Sophomore Torrance Rowe led Eastern Florida with 17 points. Classmate Shaheed Davis contributed 11. Freshman Demetrius McReynolds scored nine points and collected five rebounds.

Eastern Florida led at the half 37-26.

“I’m very proud of our guys today,” said Eastern Florida head coach Jeremy Shulman. “We played one of the top teams in the nation today and gutted out a hard-earned win.

“East Mississippi is a talented, well-coached team and our guys really answered the bell. Fantastic way to end 2013 and to go into 2014.”

BACK HOME JAN. 8 TO OPEN CONFERENCE PLAY VS. INDIAN RIVER STATE

Eastern Florida next plays in the Pasco-Hernando Community College Classic in New Port Richey, facing Georgia Highlands Community College at 2 p.m. Friday and Pasco-Hernando at 4 p.m. Saturday. Eastern Florida defeated Pasco-Hernando 104-68 on Nov. 12 in Melbourne.

Eastern Florida’s next home game on the Melbourne Campus is its Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference opener against Indian River State College at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8.
