BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a motorist on U.S. 1 on Wednesday night.

Be aware that if you are traveling north on I-95 today that the Florida Highway Patrol said I-95 North in Palm Coast (mile marker 291) will remain closed for at least the next 24 hours as a result of a tanker crash this morning around 5 a.m. that seriously damaged the highway.

According to Florida Highway Patrol,  Janet Silverman, 32 of Cocoa, was traveling southbound on US Highway 1 (State Road 5), in the outside lane, just south of Anna Wilson Place. Sarah Renee Petty, 36 of Cocoa, was crossing US Highway 1 from east to west and walked into the direct path of the Silverman’s Dodge Caravan. The front left of the van struck Petty, and she was declared deceased on scene. The crash remains under investigation.
