EFSC Golf Ready for Season’s Third Tournament
Eastern Florida’s golf team returns to action in Monday and Tuesday’s Doublegate Collegiate Invitational hosted by Darton State College in Albany, GA.
The tournament is the third for the Titans who finished fourth in both their season-opening Titans Winter Invitational and the Faulkner State Community College Spring Invitational at Fairhope, AL.
Representing the Titans will be Arthur Leonard, Brad Gray, Nick Maynard, Kyle Benson and Drew Cooke. Leonard tied for sixth at Faulkner State with a 36-hole total of 148. Gray was fifth at the season-opener with a 54-hole total of 215.
“We know what we need to do to improve and everyone is on board doing the work,” said Eastern Florida head coach Jamie Howell, whose team is ranked sixth nationally in the latest Golf World/Nike Golf men’s NJCAA Division I coaches’ poll.
To that end Howell is stressing a strong belief system and less fear of an outcome and is not concerned about the pair of fourth-place finishes.
DOUBLEGATE COLLEGIATE INVITATIONAL IS IN ALBANY, GA
“We are emphasizing keeping to the basics and playing to the course as opposed to attempting to force the issue,” he said.
“We will keep assessing and working and keep believing in our players. If the guys even sense worry out of a coach the potential for more pitfalls only increases.”
