ABOVE MAP: Charlie and Jake’s Bar-B-Que, located at 445 E. Eau Gallie Boulevard, will be the venue for a group of generous Melbourne police officers as they serve guests from 5 to 7 p.m. on March 10 to raise funds and awareness for the Special Olympics.
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — A group of Melbourne police officers will be protecting and “serving” in an entirely different fashion on March 10 when they bus tables, fill drinks and help carry food to customers from 5 to 7 p.m. at Charlie and Jake’s Bar-B-Que.
In return, the officers are seeking donations to benefit the Special Olympics Florida and the Law Enforcement Torch Run.

The Torch Run is part of a year-round fundraising campaign by law enforcement agencies to benefit their local Special Olympics Program.
In addition to the donations made by diners, Charlie and Jake’s Bar-B-Que will contribue 10 percent of the proceeds earned during the event.
The mission of Special Olympics Florida is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
This provides them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
