ABOVE VIDEO: Ron Taylor, Republican candidate for Brevard County Commission District 2, talks about his background, campaign platform and his vision for the future of Brevard County. The Brevard County Commissioner District 2 includes Kennedy Space Center, Merritt Island, Port Canaveral, Cape Canaveral, Avon by the Sea, Cocoa Beach, Snug Harbor, portions of Cocoa, Rockledge and Patrick AFB.

MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA — Ron Taylor has qualified for District 2 Brevard County Commissioner by having over 770 registered District 2 voters sign a petition that his name be place on the ballot.

Below is a statement from Taylor.

TAYLOR-RON-180“I am pleased to announce that, thanks to my campaign team, I have Qualified by Petition for the County Commission, District 2 seat. Our team includes fiscally conservative, regular Republican guys and gals, homeowners, and small business owners. And even some Tea Party members. We have built an effective ground game that is broad-based and competitive with other campaigns. And we have sufficient campaign resources to match other candidates’ personal donations and high profile donors.

In addition to Qualifying by Petition, our campaign has a competitive sign presence, and polling data that shows our campaign statistically tied with other campaigns, if not slightly ahead among voters likely to vote in the primary. It took us a little longer to get qualified because we used a different, more efficient strategy than just the shotgun approach of going out into the crowds at events, libraries, etc. After our analysis of past elections, we decided to get petitions at the same time we were making contact with the Republican Super Voters. So we went to the homes of the Republican Super Voters. Most of our petitions were signed by Republicans most likely to vote in the primary.

As a result, despite some premature speculations on the state of the campaign, the County Commissioner, District 2 race is wide open and is going to be, as my Irish grandfather would say, “a DonnyBrook of an election.”
