House Continues to Pass Important Legislation

THE CAPITOL, TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA — On Friday, the latest jobs numbers were released by the Department of Economic Opportunity, and they showed that Florida led the entire country in job growth in March, with over 22,900 jobs added.

DEO_Logo-300Brevard’s unemployment rate also ticked down from 7.1% to 7.0.% To put that number into more perspective, in March 2013, Brevard’s unemployment rate was 8.1%.

I continue to be encouraged by the good economic news for our state and our community. Our commitment to fiscal responsibility, lower taxes, and less red tape has made Florida an ideal place to create jobs and run a business. We will continue to support such policies to help our economy grow stronger by the day.

SpaceX Falcon 9/Dragon Launch a Success

Commercial space took another positive step forward this week with the successful launch of SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket and Dragon spacecraft. The Dragon craft is on a resupply mission to the International Space Station, where it will dock tomorrow.

SPACEX-FALCON-9-180Companies like SpaceX are doing incredible work in the field of commercial space, and our Space Coast is the perfect place for this emerging industry to blossom, with our incredibly skilled workforce and existing infrastructure at the Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.

In the Legislature, we must continue making Florida the most attractive state in the country for commercial space. As you are well aware, we are still feeling the effects of the Space Shuttle’s retirement, but the commercial space industry is the perfect replacement to bring more jobs to our community.
