Each of “West Melbourne’s Finest” will be required to issue a child at least one “ticket” every shift; every day. In an effort to encourage our youth to make good choices, West Melbourne Police will be rewarding children with “tickets” for various goodies from local businesses.

Examples of what police will be looking to issue “tickets” for include wearing a bicycle helmet, properly crossing the street in a crosswalk, community service, good behavior, playing sports, exercising, group activities, etc.

UNIQUE APPROACH SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED JUVENILE PROBLEMS

This unique approach is a tactic that has significantly reduced juvenile problems in other communities. In addition, we are aiming to boost the self-esteem of our children by recognizing them for doing the right thing. These positive law enforcement interactions strengthen the relationship our officers have with the youth of our community.

‘Operation Commendable Kids’ starts this week and Officers will be on the lookout for good behavior all summer.
