Eastern Florida Men’s Soccer Season Ends In 1-0 Regional Defeat

ends 2014 season with a 13-3-1 record
Eastern Florida’s men’s soccer season ended Sunday with a 1-0 defeat in the NJCAA Region 10 finale against Louisburg College in sunny but chilly North Carolina.
Eastern Florida ended its second season as a program with a 13-3-1 record. Louisburg improved to 18-2-1 and moves on to play in the district final on Saturday with a chance to advance to the NJCAA national tournament.
The defeat ended Eastern Florida’s 12-match unbeaten streak that included 11 victories.
“It was a devastating loss,” said Eastern Florida head coach Oliver Twelvetrees. “It was the first time in two years that we’ve been shut out. We were not able to get our attack going against a tough defense.
“Three games in four days on the road took their toll on the players. The sophomores have a lot to be proud of and can look forward to a bright future on and off the pitch.”
Eastern Florida defeated Louisburg 1-0 in Melbourne in 2013 to win the district title and qualify for the national tournament in its first year as a program. EFSC was eliminated in the tournament’s first round and finished 14-1-3.
Sunday’s first half ended 0-0 but Louisburg broke through on a set piece – a direct free kick – with 31 minutes remaining to be played and kept the Titans at bay until the end.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jorge Madera made four saves for EFSC.
Louisburg came into Sunday’s game ranked fifth in the nation by the NJCAA. Eastern Florida was ranked seventh.
