Clinches birth into the State Semi-Finals

BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – The Merritt Island Mustangs defeated the Largo Packers 5-0 in a quarterfinal playoff showdown at Mustang Field Friday night.

The win secures a birth into the State Semi-Finals for Merritt Island.

The Mustangs came out of the gate with Kayli Jacobs striking first in the second minute.

Merritt Island never looked back, as the team exploded in the second half to seal the victory.

Mikaela Hakaama and Kelli Linquist each contributed a goal but Olivia Bergau led Merritt Island with two goals on the night.

The win moves Merritt Island’s record to 18-2-1 on the year.

“I was proud of the girls, everybody was able to get in, make an effort and contribute tonight. Great win for the Mustangs,” said Head Coach Scott Carswell.

Merritt Island is headed to a crucial semi-final matchup with American Heritage in Plantation, Florida, next Thursday at 7 p.m.

American Heritage is coming off of a 4-1 victory against Ida Baker.
